Thanks, Carl - that was wonderful. After sooo many years of hearing about the negative side of your father from people who never accepted their own faults, it was nice to see that there was love amidst the rocks. In the end, there's always love to be found for those who are willing to walk (or drive!) through the fire. Imagine if you had decided to bypass Opa-Locka when you first saw its delapidated condition. You might have never seen the small but enduring legacy your father left behind. The love he had for his garden endures, and helps to bring some beauty to an area long forgotten by us all.
Perhaps we'll hear more hateful, uh, er, um, heartfelt stories as time goes by (Lord, I couldn't resist! Hey; I'm an Arreche....)
