I remember when Mami and I both worked for the City of New York. We would go to work every day and see each other at noon and when we were ready to come home.
One afternoon in August, when the weather was hotter than blazes, Mami and I met at the elevator. She was chipper that day and on those days she would come up with the most unexpected things!
Well, as we were waiting for the elevator a rather tall, heavier set girl wearing a very small mini skirt and thigh hugging boots (black patent leather) stood in front of us. Mami, did not miss a beat, as we were getting into the elevator she turned to me and said, in the most non-challant manner..."la nieve tiene que estar alta hoy mija!"
Needless to say, I was in hysterics! No one in the elevator understood what she had said - except, of course, me! By the time we reached the lobby tears were streaming down my face from all the laughing I did. However, I couldn't just let it out, I was in agony! When those doors opened - I just let out the biggest laugh - and Mami just walked in front of me as if I was not with her! Then she made it worse - in Spanish - looking to the outside (of course it was sunny and HOT) she said..."Mira, mira la nieve - se derritio"(spelling) (there was a water puddle in front of the building!) I can only tell you I still laugh at that one and probably always will!
