: I know there will be many who will pontificate about my brother and myself and our cousin Carl, however, there are people in our family who KNOW the TRUE meaning of this season - let me tell you a little story.
: In the winter of 1985 my husband David and I decided to adopt a child since we were unable to have one. My brother Frank can tell you of that year - and the heartbreaks we went through trying to find that special child.
: We received a call in August of 1986 from our adoption attorney telling us that a birth mother had chosen us from a large number of couples. Since we had been down that road before we really did not get our hopes up. This one was definitely different - she loved her child so much she wanted her to have a better home than she could provide.
: On December 12, 1986 at 4:33AM - that special child was brought into this world - her name, as many of you know is Stephanie and she is the true meaning of Christmas! Her birthmother loved her dearly, but knew she could not provide her with the home this child deserved - so she had her adopted. We were very lucky and since she was born on Our Lady of Guadalupe's day we felt that she was destined to be ours!
: Our dreams were realized that day - and we have always felt THIS was the TRUE meaning of Christmas. God smiled, not only on us - but on her! And when I look at that face today (braces and all) I still cannot believe what a precious gift we were given 12 years ago.

: Frank, I also thank God for having a brother like you. I know you probably thought you would not live to see another day when you were little - but all in all you have been my anchor. Though we are linked genetically, we are also linked through our hearts and your love, faith in me, support and especially your humor has seen me through many rough spots in my life. I thank you for being there for me.
