The following is an excerpt from an e-Mail message I received from Titi Yolanda on November 27, 1998:
Frank: Since you loved your grandparents so much we want to let you know
that their tomb #271 Eduardo Arreche Cuevas and Family in the Cementery of
Old San Juan has already been fixed with a marble tombstone at the cost of
$1,500. It was fully paid by Tio Miguel and Tia Yolanda to Enrique
Maldonado,care-taker of the Old San Juan Cementery.on Nov. 20,1998. Now,you do not have to worry.Love you, Tia Yolanda
The following is my reply to her and Tio Miguel. I’ve chosen to post this on the website, because I wish to share with you all my thoughts:
Dear Yolanda and Miguel:
I was both relieved and grateful to hear the news regarding Mamá and Papá’s gravesite. The repairs not only returned to them their dignity, they also demonstrated that the memories of our progenitors are once again honored with love and respect. Since the day when I first brought to light the condition of their gravesite, I sought only to correct that which Nature and indifference had wrought. Unfortunately, many people mistook my plea for rectification as a personal challenge to their sense of familial solidarity. Thank you for rising above their aura of inflexibility and providing a truly auspicious gift in such a selfless manner. These are the things that bring love and honor to us all. Que Dios los bendiga siempre.
