First let me welcome all of those people who have written in - it's just great that we are getting everyone to participate. By all means post your stories - this will mean so much to all of us. Post stories about your parents - about your siblings and about yourself. Most of you know me - my name is Ginger (August 20, 1940) - I am Iris Arreche's (May 26, 1916) daughter. Iris passed away this February 4th, and she is direly missed. Anyway - my Mother was married twice - first to my father (Martin C. Lugo) and then to my step-father (Frank Paul Maddlone). My brother Frankie (October 6, 1953) is the result of that union. Frank passed away on November 27, 1956 and Mom never remarried. My father (Martin) passed away in 1976.
I have a cute story about my brother and I when he was a baby. My Mom and Frank went out for the evening and left me baby sitting him (he was maybe 6 months old!) You have to realize I was probably close to 14 and they had been teaching me how to take care of him, change his diapers, etc. Anyway - they were off for a night at the Masonic Temple and I watched TV for a while. Frankie was never a good sleeper - and he would wake up several times during the night. When I changed him, fed him, burped him, etc., I just felt that his hair needed to be combed down (he was born with lots of hair - and it looked like he had stuck his finger in the electrical socket!) Being resourceful, I took the baby oil and put some on his head and combed. I worked for all of 5 minutes then - boing - hair was back up again. Well I did manage to use the baby oil a few more times - by this time Frankie was asleep and I just put him in his crib. Mom and Dad came home and (AY DIOS MIO - WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TO MY BABY!!!!!!!!) The cry was heard from Brooklyn to Staten Island (I am sure) - I can only tell you I didn't know what I had done wrong - however, at that time of night they did have to kind of bathe him and change the sheets and pillow case in his crib! It was a disaster then - but now it is a family joke because Frankie says that the reason he has little hair is because of the baby oil incident!!!!
